The Geology Museum in the Department of Geology, Government College is one of the best museums in South India. The uniqueness of the museum is its vast collection of around 2000 standard samples well labeled and displayed. The samples are collected in the general geological tours and field mapping which are compulsory as part of B.Sc and M.Sc Geology courses. These specimens will represent almost all the major rock formations of the country. The purpose of the museum is to exhibit the rocks, minerals, and fossils and illustrate their occurrence, distribution, and uses. The collections were accordingly arranged into five main sections covering natural samples. A giant ammonoid with the age of 65 million years is an extraordinary specimen exhibited here. Precious stones and valuable rocks are also exhibited. Students from Schools and colleges have frequently visited Geology Museum and acquired knowledge about Geology.
