The Department of English came into being with the inception of the college in October 1972. Initially the college had only Pre-Degree Courses and the Department consisted of only two teachers. This state of things did not stay for long as Degree programmes were started soon afterwards. Consequently, more posts were sanctioned and the Department got going with leaps and bounds. Proposal for the starting of B.A. English Language and Literature was submitted from time to time. The programme was sanctioned in 2012. At present the Department has six permanent teachers and one contract teacher selected at the beginning of each academic year.
